The Ultimate Christmas Fair is delighted to announce a very special auction in association with Stevenson Brothers Rocking Horses and Alder Hey Children’s Charity, the official Charity partner of the Ultimate Christmas Fair.
Paul McCartney has pledged his support to Alder Hey’s latest fundraising campaign with a once-in-a-lifetime auction prize in time for the festive season.
The Beatles legend has signed a bespoke, handmade rocking horse, which will be exclusively showcased at The Ultimate Christmas Fair and auctioned via eBay from 19th November. In addition to providing his autograph, Paul has written the famous lyric, “Rocking horse people eat marshmallow pie”, from Beatles hit, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
Stevenson Brothers Rocking Horses have been hand-crafting rocking horses for more than 30 years. This small, family firm of master craftsmen, based in the pretty rural village of Bethersden, Kent have a reputation for excellence and their exquisite creations have been made for Harrods, Selfridges, the Sultan of Brunei, her Majesty the Queen and most members of the Royal family.
Over the years they have been involved with a number of charities, most recently CHIVA Africa where they worked with celebrities, artists and designers to create a collection of completely unique and innovative pieces which were auctioned for charity at Sotheby’s last autumn. Their horses have been auctioned across the globe, raising over £1 million for various charities, with the highest bid so far sitting at £35,000.
It’s easy to see why their rocking horses are in such demand. Carved from real oak and chestnut supplied by Windsor Great Park Estates, their skill and attention to detail is reminiscent of past ages: everything, from the miniature western saddle to the red quilted numnah and even the Hackamore bit, which is kinder to the horse’s mouth, has been copied from the original used by Paul. The mane and tail on the rocking horse are made from real horse hair and a plait of hair from Moonstar has been woven into the tail of the horse.
We’re incredibly honoured that Paul McCartney has pledged his support to this auction and would like to express our deepest thanks to him and to Stevenson Brothers Rocking Horses for creating such an exquisite piece of craftsmanship.
The auction will run on eBay from 19th – 29th November, closing on the last day of the Ultimate Christmas Fair. Visitors to the Fair will have the opportunity to see the horse, where it will be displayed next to the Stevenson Brothers stand so why not come along and see it for yourself.
All profits from the sale of the rocking horse will help fund life-saving medical equipment and vital research at Alder Hey’s new site, located on West Derby’s Springfield Park. This brand new facility has helped take Alder Hey to the next level and has cemented their place among some of the top children’s health centres in the world. Their mission is to help save as many young lives as possible and support their loved ones every step of the way.
